About the Event
Kellsey Ronaghan’s first solo exhibition, meet the collection, is the culmination of the work she has made during her residency at Nanaimo Ceramic Arts. Over the summer she has developed new forms and colourways to complete a full collection of work.
Kellsey’s pots are hand-built using a combination of textured slabs and pinched coils, which leaves the surfaces dimpled by her fingertips. Hand-carved pattern wraps the exterior and colour is added to accentuate form and texture. The marks made during production are evident and invite the user to explore the process of how the pieces were made. This encourages the user to slow down and engage with the pots - and the moment - differently. Kellsey’s pots ask us to celebrate the ‘little things’ of everyday life - like taking that first sip of your homemade latte, picking a flower or two on your commute, or watering your tiny indoor garden.
Join us for the opening of meet the collection on Saturday, August 17 from 6-8pm. The exhibition will be up until August 31, and will be available to see during regular gallery hours.
kellsey grew up in a small rural town in the middle of the Yukon. her family is full of skilled craftspeople and entrepreneurs - and she was a very good assistant. this tactile upbringing led her to study at the Alberta college of art and design (now AUARTS) where she fell in love with clay. after a quick stint of business school, she graduated with a BFA in 2016 and began her own studio practice. she currently lives and works in Calgary, slowly filling her studio with hand-built pottery and cats.
